Salmonella Poisoning
Hey again it’s me. In my next few blogs I will be talking about food poisoning and bacteria. For today’s subject I will be talking about the most heard of bacteria. Did you know that salmonella is a bacteria? Well it is. Salmonella can sometimes be found in products such as eggs, chicken, unprocessed milk, meat and water. There are also some pets that contain the bacteria of salmonella. They are turtles and birds. What kind of infection does salmonella cause? Salmonella attacks the stomach and intestines. In some cases, the bacteria may enter the veins that carry water and protein to the blood, and of course blood. Salmonella attacks all age groups and both sexes. Children, the elderly and people who are already sick are much more likely to get a serious infection. What are the symptoms of salmonella poisoning? Some of the symptoms are diarrheoa or constipation, headaches, stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting, fever, possibly blood in the faeces. When should you contact a doctor? If the patient has diarrhoea for more than 24 hours, if it is frequent and intense, if the patient has severe stomach cramps, if there is blood in the faeces and if the patient has fever of 38oC or higher and dehydration. To make sure that you do not get salmonella poisoing make sure that your food is cooked thoroughly. All of the facts that are in this text are based on a text by Christel Bech, nurse.
